HISTORICAL PLACES OF SOUTH INDIA - TAMIL NADU Tamil Nadu, best known for its cultural heritages and divine historic temples, is a unique and captivating in its own right. VELLORE FORT:  The fort is one of the finest examples of millitary architecture in south india. built towards the end of the 14th century by the Hindu Vijayanagar kings. Its constructed of granite blocks and surrounded by a moat which is supplied by a subterranean drain fed from a tank. The fort is situated on the palor riverbank. The outer length of the fort is about 2,500 feet and 1,500 feet in breadth. The height of the outer wall is about 300 feet and the breadth is about 25 feet, The approximate circumstance of the fort is 2,600 meters. The vellore fort is perhaps the most beautiful specimen of millitary architecture in south india and its still in a good state of preservation.

THANJAVUR PALACE: Thanjavur Palace with its architectural beauty reflects the "Marathas and Nayaks" patronage towards art and culture. Painting i the Darbar hall depict the scenes from epic Ramayana and stucco figures of Gods and Goddesses are well projected on the walls and ceiling,Chola kings The Thanjavur palace was partly built by the Nayaks in 1550 and partly by the Marathas. known for its huge walls, spacious corridors, observation towards and a shady courtyard, This majestic palace comprises of a library, museum and an art gallery. The museums displays the royal items and beholdings such as cloths, hunting weapons, the head gears ect, of the kings who ruled this place in the past. The museum also contains full Ramayana written of palm leaf. The art gallery displays a huge collections of articrafts of the chola dynasty. The library comprises of a vast collection of manuscripts on palm leaves and paper. There is also the grand Durbar Hall which was used for public audiences. listed as as world Heritage site and is worth a visit.

ROCK FORT TEMPLE:  The Rock Fort Temple complex in Tiruchirappalli is and important and famous monument in Tamilnadu. The Rock fort temple complex comprises of three temples-the manikkavinayaka temple, the Uchhi pillayar koyil and the Taayumaanava koil(Shivastalam) on the hill. The Rock Fort Temple at Tiruchrappalli is the most famous landmarks of this town. Outcropped out of a massive stone rock, which rises abruptly from the plain to tower over the old city, the rock fort temple is an amazing monument. The rock fort temeple rises to a height of 83m and is older than the rocks of Greenland and the Himalayas. This temple has a 100-pillared hall and a Vimana covered with gold. The southern side of the rock has several beautifully carved, rock-cut cave temples.

GENJI FORT: It is located on the Tindivanam- Thiruvannamalai road about 25kms, from Tindivanam and is about 132 kms, from chidambaram, This Place is associated with Raja Desingh. There is a 700 years old fort running over three hills of huge and steep boulders. According to tradition the original fort was laid by kone chiefs, The fort was ruled by Vijayanagar Nayaks, Marathas, Moghuls,Carnatic Nawabs, the French and the British Rajagiri and Krishnagiri are two important fortifications here and its a popular picnic spot.
